All Aaliyah had ever wanted was to be invisible…To not be stared at. To not have to display her lifelong pain everywhere she goes. But society is too blind to see that beauty lies beneath the skin.

Aaliyah only reveals her special mark—a facial birthmark—to the closest people in her life. But when Aaliyah’s friend paints her in a portrait titled The Marked One, her birthmark is exposed to the world. Now no amount of makeup can keep Aaliyah’s secret.

Tristan Gerardo appears to be a successful CEO, but he is hiding many secrets…

What many don’t realize is that his successful public persona is a mask for his own pain—both of losing a sibling, and his failed marriage.

Tristan buys a portrait called The Marked One, and is shocked when the subject of the portrait arrives for an interview at his company. He pursues Aaliyah, and while she is cautious at first, she feels an ease around Tristan that she’s never experienced before.

Little by little, Tristan’s secrets are exposed…

While Tristan struggles to keep Aaliyah from finding out how his sister died, she discovers he is still married. He assures her she has his full loyalty and the divorce is just a matter of time, and she desperately wants to believe him. But his estranged wife re-enters his life, and Tristan must figure out how to convince Aaliyah that she means the world to him.

How can Tristan make Aaliyah realize that he loves her for herself, and not because of her notoriety as The Marked One?

Con Artists, Scandal, and Bribes, Oh My! San Francisco Book Review

Hey, guys! It’s been a while. I’ve been working on the fifth and final book in The Outsider Chronicles, and I’ve had quite an adventure this past week. Adventures of the scammy sort.

I was a freelance review for San Francisco Book Review and had an awful experience with the company’s owner Heidi Komlofske-Rojek, who refused to pay me, citing financial difficulties, yet somehow had the funds to go on vacation.

You can read the full story HERE

But wait, there’s more.

After finally getting compensated for my time and hard work, Heidi Komlofske-Rojek attempted to bully me into modifying my statements and wanted me to lie about my transactions with the company.

It’s funny that a book review site would handle a negative review so badly. Things that make you go hmmm.

You can find my update HERE

If you, and anyone you know has had any interactions with this company or Heidi Komlofske-Rojek in the past, I heartily encourage you to step forward. As long as we remain silent, freelancers and authors will continue to be robbed.

Man Crush Monday Not On Monday But My Ovaries Have Definitely Exploded

I would title this Man Crush Monday but it’s not Monday. This is definitely a man crush though. Holy hell this dude is sexy!

Miyavi is a musician from Japan born September, 14th 1981, he first started out in the visual kei band Due le Quartz before going solo in 2002.
I first learned about Miyavi back in 2012 while I was browsing through the Unpopular Kpop Opinions tumblr blog and someone said that G-dragon’s (of BIGBANG) Alive era look reminded them of Miyavi.
Now, usually when people compare artists (or does the “if you like THIS, you’ll like THAT” thing)I don’t pay attention, just because someone says this person sounds like XYZ doesn’t mean I’ll think so too.
But I liked his hat in the picture and I have a lowkey thing for piercings (not as big as my glasses thing. Glasses :3 ) and he looked like he would have a rock style of music and I like Jrock so I was like Okaaaaay, let me try it out.

Thank you past Kayti for being so smart!

Survive is the first song I heard by him.

You know when you stumble across a song and you’ve barely heard any of it but you already know you’re going to love that song so hard and play it anywhere, any day, anytime?
I was hooked in ten seconds practically.
The music video is simple, shot in black and white with a static camera all it has to rely on is Miyavi’s on energy, and the dude has a full on solar system of energy. I’s luuuuuuuuuuv this song.

It took me a bit to figure out what he was saying, this was back when he started putting out a lot of videos in English. Someone said that the way he spoke use a lot of rhotic vowels and every time I think of that, I’m all “you mean E-rotic.”

And then there are his tattoos.

I cannot express in an articulate manner how much I love his tattoos. It’s like a painting. They look like art. I love how they look like brush strokes and I’m still trying to peep if they’re everywhere. As in, all over his body. As in, ALL over his BODY.

Also, his guitar fingering.

He drops a lot of good music videos and in 2013 I was really loving Ahead of The Light (the trucks are a part of Japan’s Dekotora culture)

then he dropped Secret which is full of this

and this

(Well actually, that wasn’t part of the video. It should have been god dammit! Uwah.)

That video is so freaking hot and Miyavi actually wanted to make it hotter (yaaahs) but he was told to tone it down (noooo) lest he burn out our eyeballs (don’t care, burn em!)
By the way, the woman in the video is Japanese porn star Miyuki Alice, just in case you feel a sudden urge for some quick research.

Despite that music video I still thought I was in control of my fan girl feels (feel free to laugh at this point). And then I found out he was going to be in a movie.

Okay, don’t hate me but up until about two weeks before Unbroken premiered I had little to no idea what the movie was about. If you asked me about it my response would have been, “It’s this WWII movie STARRING MIYAVI! SQUEEEE! ASDFGHJKL! ER MAH GAHD! YAAAAAHS.”

Then it was like, “oh. It’s not starring Miyavi.”

“oh. Miyavi’s the bad guy.”

Which isn’t bad because, yum, fictional bad guys.
“oh. Miyavi’s bad guy is based off an historical, real life bad bad guy. Oh glob.”

But this was MYV. I was gonna watch it anyway. And when it finally got to his scene and hour, eighteen minutes, and seventeen seconds into the movie (wut) I legit paused and squeed for like a minute. This happened every time he said a line so that scene took quite a while to get through.
And oh my god, can he do the intense stare so well. ‘Scuse me while I take off my panties.

The other actors and the rest of the movie was good too. I definitely recommend it and not just because Miyavi played the hell out of his role. Can we get more movies with him please?

Oh and when he’s not busy being king of the sex gods, he’s also the father of two adorable little girls (my ovaries…),

and quietly dropping music videos like this one HERE.

Do You Even NaNo?

It’s November ya’ll and over here in the den of sexy (Too corny? Yes? No? Nah.) two of us shall be participating in National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. We’ll be banging out 50,000 word story in 30 days (or in my case, trying to).

Laura, the fabulous badass that she is, will be working on The Devil’s Disease, the second book in her Shades Below trilogy which you should totally read if you haven’t already.

I, on the other hand, will be working on something new, half outlined, mostly pantsed. It’s YA dark fantasy, with demons, revenge and romance (duh). Wish me luck. I’m gonna need it.

Madhuri, won’t be participating this year. Mostly because SHE JUST LANDED AN AGENT and is busy editing the sexiness (aaaaaall, the sexiness) that is DUTCH ❤

If you’re doing NaNoWriMo this year, or are just hearing about it now come join us HERE and HERE

Pale & Crimson

I’ve been a writing demon these past few months. Writing… rewriting… the dreaded editing stage… and now, with Monster set to be available for preorder on the 6th I decided to share a little gift with the not-so-patient.

A free short story!

From now until July 18th, you can get your eager little hands on Pale and Crimson, a nice, gruesome little short story set in the Outsider universe.

Slithers are vicious creatures. Craving flesh and blood, they will stop at nothing until their hunger is satisfied. So when sixteen year old Benjamin King discovers that one has been smuggled onto the train, he’s eager to see it, even if it has been drugged into a mindless stupor.
But one moment can change everything.
Set six years before Niko, Pale and Crimson chronicles how one decision can have far reaching consequences.
